I forgive or bypass Scorsese faith (if true or not). The film is fantastic as a work of art course look who is the Director. But I squirm with all the "religious" drama that this film attracted. Mainly in America and mainly by the biggest mafia on earth The Vatican. Sadly any of the teachings that the life of a Palestinian Jew in the era of Christ could lend humanity are by now lost and forgotten thanks to that MAfia (Vatican) who has become the biggest criminal enterprise humanity has known .

I watched this movie in Antarctica. It gets a special showing at the UK's Halley base every mid winter. I was a big fan since The Thing's original VHS release but watching it in Antarctica added a new, very special dimension to this classic flick for me. Also had the opprtunity to catch Carpenter and his band play cuts from his film scores with his band in Glasgow some years later. That was hyper cool too. The man's a legend

This might be my favorite film of his. It is by far the most moving film I have seen about Jesus. It may not be true to the gospels entirely, but we have no way to know how true the gospels are to history. I have been studying the gospels for years, and I can definitely say the gospel writers took their own creative liberties (for instance the nativity stories in Matthew and Luke don't line up with one another, nor do the resurrection accounts, nor do their respective Christologies: Mark's Jesus is quite differently portrayed than John's, for instance) In fact, in writing a story about anyone and the significance, you have to, especially if you're trying to convey a message. Notice, Luke and Matthew who both used Mark as a source each make their own alterations to some of the text. They also drew from the Q "sayings source" , our earliest source on Jesus teachings, but selectively, and differently in each case, and included traditions not found in the other gospel. John uses other sources, some of which contain accounts that aren't in the synoptic tradition. Unlike Mark, written 20 years earlier (around 70 CE), in John's gospel, Jesus uses the miracles to show he is the messiah; in Mark, however, Jesus tries to keep it a secret. The point is, they were each trying to present their view of who they thought Jesus was, and what he said and did. So I think Scorsese' interpretation of Kazantzakis' novel is faithfully following in their footsteps.

I'm 73 and grew up with the original The Thing doing late night and Saturday evening re-runs on TV. It really scared me. So when John Carpenter came out 30 years later with his version I went and saw it in the movie theater. I was amazed at Rob Bottin's monsters! I'm so glad this film found its audience and that we're still watching and talking about it today.

Where can I find the 5 1/2 hour version? What a treat that would be! This was a masterpiece and all that moaning by critics was nonsense. So glad it got great reviews overseas. The original German soundtrack (no dubbing) is SO much better than the English dubbed version. I forgot I was even reading captions after 5 minutes. I bought the director’s cut, but I would spend good money for the 5 1/2 hour version. Man, everyone working on this film worked HARD. Unbelievable.

My uncle served on U - Boats until suffering an injury that put him back on land , teaching at a submariner school . That injury saved his life . Both boats he served on were lost with all hands in late ‘42 and early ‘43 . He would tell me stories about his exploits , but boredom was the main theme . He lost one brother on the Eastern front , and another was lost in France in the Fall of ‘44 . He had no love of Hitler , but dearly loved Germany .

I've always loved this movie; everything from cast to writing to especially the dreamy music. I love this BTS. I only wish the English spoken language didn't have English subtitles. (The French is appreciated!) To me subtitles that aren't translating are simply unnecessarily distracting. But I know there's some sort of algorithm ($$$) pushing for it. C'est la vie.

It’s interesting predator thought he didn’t have an answer for for the mystery of addiction but for me this movie answered the question. The character of Bob in the movie was using sex as a mood regulator. To me Bobs Hunt for pussy wasn’t just interested in sex but validation
